Twas the week before Christmas ...

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Twas the week before Christmas and I am finally getting a post out. I don't know where the time goes, maybe in my world it is spent searching, scanning and surfing the Pinterest site. Now I don't
want you to think  I'm  a Pinterest addict but when you get caught up in the world of a million ideas
you
find yourself spending alittle time in one spot. I must admit I do love it.
I really don't know all the in's and out's , or all the mechanics of Pinterest, but I totally get it.
S0, so many great ideas. If you want to know what is trendy, log on. For example, you won't spend anytime on the site before you will want to paint everything you own with chalkpaint or wonder why you can't get your cute puppy dog to pose like all the adorable pet pictures you find. And you definitely can't spend time on Pinterest without wanting to decorate every room in your house. So after spending the last couple of weeks drooling over all the Holiday décor, here's what I came up with. Enjoy

I give you the Luce family Christmas 2014

Don't you just love when its a beautiful day and you decide , the heck with life stuff, lets do something fun. Well, I had that day and decided to go to this fabulous fall show of about 15 bloggers that had gathered in a chapel about an hour and a half away. I really, really wanted to check it out. So the trooper that he is, Ron and I directed our GPS to Pike Rd, Alabama.
After turning off the interstate , and driving down a beautiful winding  road, lined with moss draped trees ( sounds like a picture right?) we top the hill and there it was. A little white chapel sitting off  in the distant among  hundreds of parked cars. We were directed to park out in a field , where a trolley car was waiting to pick us up. After getting into the show I knew I wanted everything. Ironstone, chippy furniture, cool signs, jewelry, fall décor etc. Everyone was buying. I had worried that Ron would be the only guy there, but to my surprise there was quiet a few supportive hubbies tagging along. Whew! As you look at some pictures that I took, you will recognize some of the famous bloggers that were there. Coastal Charm, Thistlewood Farm, Miss Mustard Seed, Urban Farmhouse  to name a few. Enjoy!

It was a beautiful event hall, perfect for the setting.

Crowds of buyers and neat junk!

The inventory was already picked over!:(

Lucy's inspired jewelry was really unique.

Necklaces made from old hardware.

Really old hardware.

Love that ironstone!

Change of Heart....

Friday, October 24, 2014

As you know painting furniture is my thing. I  must have painted ten thousand pieces. I will admit most of the pieces could not be saved but more times than not a chest or dresser would come along and just because painted furniture was trendy, I would paint it. Customers would call me to paint their grandmothers or great grandmothers beautiful buffets, chairs, tables or dressers. Don't get me wrong (it's my business)and there are some awesome painted pieces out there, but you have to admit there are some AWFUL ones too. Chalk paint has made everyone a painter. Yesterday while I visited my friend in Powder Springs I was reminded that in my heart I still have a love for beautiful  wood pieces.  So I wanted to share some of these awesome wood furniture pieces with you. You might look at furniture differently in the future, and just because there is a craze of chalk painted furniture out there, an original wood piece might be just what your looking for. I also wanted to share some awesome painted pieces with you and some Awful ones too. (in my humble opinion) ENJOY!
Picture does not do this buffet what it deserves. It is beautiful...
Makes you wonder the history of it.

Excuse the sun light!!

Sue's favorite chest...Love it

I have painted a many of these dressers, but not this one, love the patina on it.

Great painted furniture!!
Love this cute little French vanity. Paint color perfect for it.

This a great painted entry cabinet...

Awful painted furniture!!
(in my opinion)

Example of a pretty buffet that someone painted  awful and changed the hardware. Please don't do this....

Original  Patina...
This is an example of original paint on a cupboard. Love original chippy patina.

Sharing Friends and Fall Decor...

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

If you follow my blog, you know that I blog about my two friends Sue and Carol. Sue this, Carol that, blah, blah, blah, but now I want to share their talent with you.
I love sharing their homes with you guys. Both homes are accented with beautiful antiques and collectibles, tastefully displayed in every room. Pictures really don't describe how their homes
make me feel. If I could describe their homes in a couple of words , I would say,
both homes have a sense of welcome, and coziness.
Home Sweet Home!
Enjoy!!

                                            CAROL'S FALL HOME

Carol has used her silver urn to display a big bold fall arrangement. I love the way she used a tray with a small pumpkin sitting between two great lamps, displayed on a wonderful pine sideboard.

This is Carol's entry way. How warm and welcoming is this.
Three pumpkins stacked on top of an arrangement of fall leaves, sitting on a small antique side table. These are real fresh
pumpkins purchased from the Atlanta Farmers Market.
The berry wreath hanging inside the mirror is beautiful

This was awesome. Although this is Carols last year display, I had to share it with you.a pile of collected pumpkins. gourds and candle sticks displayed on a beautiful buffet on her dining room sideboard.

All I can say is awesome. Beautiful fall color .
Carol has used some deer antlers and fall color nuts
in this centerpiece.

SUE'S FALL HOME

If this doesn't say fall, what does? Sue has filled a wooden bowl with pumpkins, corn and berries.
Displayed on a dry sink, reflecting in an old vintage mirror.

Awesome fall colors in her throw pillows!!Love it...
Looks like the bird is right at home.

A metal wire stacked pumpkin piece arranged with all her flea market finds.

Simple branches of orange berries, in an oversized jug, makes me smile.

And we can't forget the porch. What a great place to welcome your friends!
Love the enamel bowl and pitcher with fall foliage displayed in them.

A Little Dab Will Do Ya...

Sunday, September 28, 2014

Just sharing what I dug up this weekend while junkin around town. A little bit goes along way to make my heart sing. A wonderful chippy wood box that you see me use during the Christmas holiday season. Some more small white pumpkins
to go into my tablescape that I picked up at Publixs. A wine bottle in a wicker caddy. ( it's actually not old, a repo, but it has a great look). Last but not least one side of a deer antler. All together my little pile looks pretty good. ENJOY!

Another rescued ironstone platter!

My one sided deer antler

Great chippy patina...

Wicker wine caddy..
And don't the fabulous box!

Things I love about the fall...

Monday, September 22, 2014

I do love the fall. It is one of my favorite times of year. The leaves changing colors and then filling your yard with a million dead leaves. Going on the perfect pumpkin search and finding it.( even though it's not orange :) Bringing out some of your favorite cozy cardigans, to find out they are out of style. Football,(mostly the tailgating food part of it.) The weather.( opening up the windows to let the cool air come in.) And of coarse it's the season that gets the decorating side of your brain going. I do admit I really don't decorate to much for fall but I do like to scatter a few fall type things around. Enjoy!!
